In this multifaceted role, you will be integral to the smooth operation of the practice, providing essential chairside assistance to both dentists during various restorative, cosmetic, and minor surgical procedures, as well as supporting dental hygienists during preventative care appointments. Your daily responsibilities will span from preparing treatment rooms with precision, ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are sterile and readily available, to accurately documenting patient information and managing stock levels. You will be crucial in creating a welcoming and reassuring environment for patients, preparing them for treatments, explaining post-operative care instructions clearly, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout their visit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient chairside assistance to dentists during a range of dental procedures, including restorative, cosmetic, and minor surgical treatments.
  • Support dental hygienists with patient care during routine examinations and preventative treatments.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms to the highest clinical standards, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment meticulously, adhering to strict cross-infection control guidelines.
  • Manage and monitor dental stock levels, ordering supplies as necessary to ensure seamless operations.
  • Prepare dental materials and equipment accurately for various procedures.
  • Provide patients with clear pre- and post-operative instructions and ensure their comfort throughout their visit.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including dental charts and appointment scheduling.
  • Assist with administrative duties as required to ensure efficient practice flow.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and continuous professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Dental Assistant with GDC registration.
  • Proven experience in chairside assistance within a dental practice setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, and materials.
  • Excellent understanding and application of infection control and decontamination protocols.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Proficiency in dental software (e.g., SOE Exact, Dentally, or similar).
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Certificate in Dental Radiography.
  • Experience in a private dental practice environment.
  • Knowledge of CQC/HIS regulations.
  • First Aid certification.
