Are you a recent graduate with a passion for information organization, digital media, and community service? The Vancouver Island Regional Library is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry Level Digital Content Librarian to join our innovative team in Nanaimo. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the acquisition, cataloging, and organization of digital resources, including e-books, audiobooks, streaming media, and online databases.
- Create and maintain accurate metadata records to ensure optimal discoverability and accessibility of digital content.
- Support the digitization of local historical materials and special collections, adhering to preservation best practices.
- Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to patrons and staff regarding digital library services and platforms.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of digital content and platforms, suggesting improvements for user experience.
- Participate in the development and implementation of digital content policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other library departments to promote digital resources and programs to the community.
- Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in digital librarianship and information science.
Required Skills
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an ALA-accredited program, or currently enrolled in such a program with completion expected within 6-12 months.
- Basic understanding of cataloging principles and metadata standards (e.g., MARC, Dublin Core).
- Proficiency with common office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interest in digital technologies and their application in a library setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems or Content Management Systems (CMS).
- Experience with library specific software (e.g., Integrated Library Systems – ILS).
- Basic knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS) is an asset.
- Experience providing customer service or technical support.
