Job Description
We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Director of Business Development to spearhead our strategic growth initiatives within Zimbabwe and potentially across the broader Southern African region. Based at our Gweru headquarters, this pivotal role demands a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader with a proven track record in identifying and capitalizing on new market opportunities, cultivating high-value, long-term partnerships, and driving significant, measurable revenue growth. The Director of Business Development will be instrumental in expanding Bata’s market footprint, enhancing our product distribution channels, and identifying innovative business models that are strategically aligned with our long-term corporate objectives.
You will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of developing, implementing, and meticulously executing comprehensive business development strategies. This includes leading cross-functional teams, fostering strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders—including major retailers, distributors, and potential strategic collaborators—to achieve ambitious targets. The role will involve extensive market analysis to identify untapped segments and emerging trends, translating these insightful observations into actionable and effective strategies. You will be responsible for setting ambitious sales targets for new initiatives and ensuring their successful achievement through meticulous planning and execution.
A critical aspect of this position will be the ability to thoroughly evaluate potential mergers, acquisitions, or joint venture opportunities that can strategically accelerate our market penetration and product diversification efforts. Furthermore, you will serve as a prominent brand ambassador for Bata, representing the company at prestigious industry events, conferences, and critical stakeholder meetings, continually seeking avenues to enhance our corporate image and market presence. You will report directly to the Country Manager and be a key member of the senior leadership team, making substantial contributions to overall corporate strategy and long-range planning. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and refine comprehensive business development strategies to achieve aggressive growth targets.
- Identify and evaluate new market opportunities, product lines, and distribution channels within Zimbabwe and regionally.
- Cultivate, nurture, and maintain strong, strategic relationships with key partners, retailers, and distributors.
- Lead and successfully negotiate major contracts, strategic partnerships, and potential mergers/acquisitions.
- Conduct in-depth market research, competitor analysis, and trend forecasting to inform strategic decision-making.
- Prepare and present detailed business plans, financial projections, and performance reports to senior leadership.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to ensure the successful execution of all business development initiatives.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, conferences, and key networking functions.
- Mentor, coach, and guide business development teams to foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in business development, sales leadership, or strategic partnerships (minimum 10 years).
- Exceptional negotiation, persuasion, and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical acumen and advanced problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written).
