Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Director of Learning & Development to join our executive team in Gweru, Midlands Province. This pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping the future capabilities and talent pipeline of NMB Bank Zimbabwe Limited. The Director of L&D will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive learning strategies and programs that align with our strategic business objectives, foster a culture of continuous learning, and enhance employee performance and engagement across all levels of the organization. You will lead a dedicated team and collaborate closely with senior leadership, HR partners, and business unit heads to identify skill gaps, develop robust training curricula, and deploy innovative learning solutions. This includes everything from leadership development and digital upskilling to compliance training and employee onboarding. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of modern adult learning principles, a proven track record in organizational development, and the ability to drive change through effective learning interventions. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive Learning & Development strategy that supports NMB Bank’s strategic goals and talent management initiatives.
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of innovative and impactful learning programs, including leadership development, technical skills training, digital literacy, compliance, and soft skills.
  • Conduct thorough needs assessments to identify critical skill gaps and future capability requirements across the organization.
  • Manage the L&D budget, resources, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective and high-quality learning solutions.
  • Implement and leverage learning technologies (LMS, e-learning platforms) to enhance accessibility and effectiveness of training programs.
  • Establish clear metrics and evaluation methodologies to measure the effectiveness and ROI of L&D initiatives, providing regular reports to senior leadership.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and professional growth throughout the organization.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop the L&D team, fostering a high-performance environment.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners and line managers to integrate L&D programs into performance management and career development frameworks.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging learning technologies, and talent development trends to ensure NMB Bank remains at the forefront of organizational learning.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience in Learning & Development or Organizational Development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating large-scale learning programs.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies.
  • Exceptional strategic planning and execution skills, with the ability to translate business needs into effective L&D solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision making.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets and external vendor relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Education, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification in Learning & Development (e.g., CPTD, ATD Certification).
  • Experience in the banking or financial services industry.
  • Proficiency with various Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning authoring tools.
  • Experience with change management methodologies and their application in L&D initiatives.
