Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Director of Manufacturing to lead our extensive manufacturing operations across multiple plants within Harare Province. This critical role demands a strategic leader with a proven track record in optimizing large-scale production processes, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving innovation in a diverse manufacturing environment. The Director of Manufacturing will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our production lifecycle, from raw material procurement to finished goods distribution, ensuring compliance with global quality standards, safety regulations, and cost targets. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive manufacturing strategy aligned with company objectives, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, quality, and innovation.
  • Oversee daily operations across multiple manufacturing facilities, ensuring optimal production schedules, capacity utilization, and resource allocation.
  • Lead and mentor a team of manufacturing managers, engineers, and production staff, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous professional development.
  • Implement and maintain world-class quality control systems and processes (e.g., ISO, HACCP, GMP) to ensure product excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives through the application of Lean, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Manage the manufacturing budget, including capital expenditure planning, cost analysis, and forecasting to achieve financial targets.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, Supply Chain, Sales, and Marketing departments to ensure seamless product development, launch, and demand fulfillment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and automation solutions to improve manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track manufacturing performance and drive strategic decision-making.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 15 years' progressive experience in manufacturing leadership roles, with at least 5 years at a Director level in a multi-plant environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or related field) or Manufacturing Management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of modern manufacturing technologies, automation, and Industry 4.0 principles.
  • Proven ability to manage large budgets, control costs, and drive profitability.
  • Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, HACCP, GMP) and regulatory compliance.
  • Strategic planning and execution capabilities in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems relevant to manufacturing operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree (MBA or relevant advanced engineering degree).
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt).
  • Experience in the food processing, FMCG, or diversified light manufacturing sectors.
  • International manufacturing experience or exposure to global best practices.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
