Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and comprehensive oversight for all nursing services and clinical operations across the hospital departments.
  • Develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care to ensure compliance with national health regulations, best clinical practices, and ethical guidelines.
  • Manage the nursing department's operational and capital budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility, efficient resource allocation, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, mentorship, and performance evaluation of all nursing staff, fostering a culture of professional growth, accountability, and cohesive teamwork.
  • Oversee patient care quality initiatives, including robust patient safety programs, stringent infection control measures, and continuous quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current and unrestricted licensure to practice in Zimbabwe.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a closely related health field is essential; a Master's Degree is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive nursing experience, with at least 5 years specifically in a senior leadership or management role within an acute care hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical governance, quality improvement methodologies, and patient safety protocols.
  • Strong understanding of national healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical guidelines pertinent to public health institutions in Zimbabwe.
  • Exceptional leadership, highly effective communication (written and verbal), superior interpersonal, and strong team-building skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex budgets and human resources effectively and strategically.
  • Proficiency in critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and decisive decision-making under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively and resiliently in a demanding, dynamic, and resource-constrained healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Public Health, Healthcare Management, or Business Administration.
  • Extensive experience working specifically within a district hospital or public health system context in Zimbabwe.
  • Additional certifications in healthcare leadership, advanced nursing practice, or specialized nursing areas (e.g., critical care, emergency medicine).
  • Familiarity and practical experience with digital health records systems (EHR/EMR) and other relevant healthcare technologies.
