Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Procurement to lead our procurement function at Mimosa Mining Company in Zvishavane. This pivotal role requires a visionary leader who can drive significant value through strategic sourcing, vendor management, and supply chain optimization. The Director of Procurement will be responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies that align with Mimosa’s operational goals, cost-efficiency objectives, and sustainability commitments. You will oversee all aspects of our purchasing activities, from raw materials and machinery to services, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services essential for our mining operations. This includes negotiating complex contracts, managing supplier relationships, mitigating supply chain risks, and implementing best-in-class procurement practices. The successful candidate will foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and compliance within the procurement department, ensuring adherence to both company policies and relevant regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with Mimosa's corporate objectives and operational needs.
  • Lead and mentor the procurement team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the end-to-end procurement process, from sourcing and vendor selection to contract negotiation and performance management.
  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers while maintaining strong relationships with existing vendors to ensure consistent supply and competitive pricing.
  • Implement robust risk management strategies to mitigate supply chain disruptions and ensure business continuity.
  • Drive cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality, safety, or operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all company policies, ethical guidelines, and relevant regulatory requirements in all procurement activities.
  • Leverage technology and data analytics to enhance procurement efficiency, transparency, and decision-making.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, finance, engineering, and other departments to understand requirements and optimize procurement support.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability.
  • Contribute to the company’s sustainability agenda by promoting responsible sourcing practices and engaging with suppliers on environmental and social impact.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in procurement, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in a large-scale industrial or mining environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful procurement strategies that deliver significant cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain management principles, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex and demanding operational environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Supply Chain Management.
  • Professional certification such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or equivalent.
  • Experience with international procurement and logistics.
  • Knowledge of local Zimbabwean procurement regulations and supplier landscape.
