Job Description

As the Director of R&D at Career.zycto, you will be the visionary leader responsible for steering our innovation pipeline and shaping the future of our HR technology products. This pivotal role requires a dynamic individual with a deep understanding of cutting-edge technologies, particularly in AI, machine learning, and data science, applied within the human resources domain. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of creativity, scientific rigor, and rapid prototyping. Your mission will be to identify emerging trends, translate complex business needs into actionable research initiatives, and oversee the development of groundbreaking solutions that enhance our service offerings and provide unparalleled value to our clients.

You will play a critical role in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation for all R&D projects. This includes defining project scopes, setting ambitious yet realistic timelines, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovations from concept to commercialization. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with product management, engineering, and sales teams to align R&D efforts with market demands and company objectives. Furthermore, you will be responsible for building and mentoring a world-class R&D team, attracting top talent, and continuously advancing their skills and capabilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the overall R&D strategy, aligning with company vision and market needs.
  • Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing R&D team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the entire R&D lifecycle, from ideation and research to prototyping, testing, and successful handover to product development.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, methodologies, and market trends relevant to HR technology and AI.
  • Manage R&D budgets, resources, and project timelines to ensure efficient and effective delivery of initiatives.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales to ensure R&D efforts translate into viable products.
  • Establish and maintain intellectual property strategies, including patent applications and trade secret protection.
  • Represent Career.zycto at industry conferences, engaging with the wider scientific and tech community.
  • Ensure R&D activities comply with regulatory requirements and ethical standards.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in R&D, with at least 5 years in a leadership or directorial role.
  • Proven track record of leading successful R&D projects from concept to commercialization, preferably in software or HR technology.
  • Expertise in AI/Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Big Data analytics, and cloud computing platforms.
  • Strong strategic planning, project management, and budget management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, team building, and mentorship abilities.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Human Resources or Talent Acquisition technology sector.
  • Publications or patents in relevant fields.
  • Experience with open-source contributions or participation in industry consortia.
  • Familiarity with ethical AI principles and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, POPIA).
