Job Description
We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Director of Research to lead and expand our research endeavors at the Huye Campus. This pivotal role demands a seasoned academic leader with a proven track record in research management, grant acquisition, and fostering a vibrant research culture. The Director of Research will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of research activities, enhancing our publication output, and strengthening partnerships with national and international stakeholders. You will be responsible for driving innovative projects that address critical societal needs within Rwanda and beyond, ensuring our research has a tangible impact on policy, practice, and community development. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive research strategy aligned with the University's mission and national development priorities.
- Oversee the management of all research projects, ensuring adherence to ethical guidelines, quality standards, and established timelines.
- Actively seek, identify, and secure national and international research grants, funding opportunities, and strategic partnerships.
- Foster a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty and researchers across various departments and faculties.
- Provide exemplary leadership and mentorship to research staff and faculty, supporting their professional development and maximizing their research output and impact.
- Manage the budget for research activities, ensuring efficient allocation and optimal utilization of resources.
- Enhance the visibility and impact of research outputs through high-quality publications in reputable journals, presentations at international conferences, and effective public dissemination.
- Establish and maintain robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks for comprehensive research performance and impact assessment.
- Represent the University at national and international forums, committees, and events related to research, innovation, and development.
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant research policies, institutional regulations, and national and international legal frameworks governing research ethics and conduct.
Required Skills
- PhD in a relevant academic discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in research, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Demonstrated track record of successful grant writing and securing significant research funding.
- Extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals and academic presses.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing research strategies.
- Strong leadership, team management, and mentoring abilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in research methodologies, data analysis, and ethical research practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within the Rwandan higher education or research landscape.
- Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and/or French.
- Experience with interdisciplinary research initiatives and partnerships.
- A track record of successful knowledge translation and policy influence.
- Familiarity with international research funding landscapes and networks.
