Job Description
We are seeking an visionary and experienced Director of Research & Development to lead our innovation initiatives at Mimosa Mining Company. This pivotal role will be responsible for defining and executing the R&D strategy, driving technological advancements in mining processes, metallurgy, resource utilization, and environmental management. The Director of R&D will champion a culture of scientific inquiry and problem-solving, identifying opportunities for enhanced operational efficiency, cost reduction, and improved product quality. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background, proven leadership capabilities, and an ability to translate complex research into tangible business outcomes. You will work collaboratively with operational teams, senior leadership, and external partners to ensure Mimosa remains at the forefront of the mining industry’s technological evolution, contributing directly to our sustainable growth and success in a dynamic global market.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive R&D strategy aligned with Mimosa's long-term business objectives and operational needs.
- Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing R&D team, fostering an environment of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize research projects focused on optimizing mining methods, beneficiation processes, and resource recovery.
- Oversee the design, execution, and analysis of experimental trials, ensuring scientific rigor and practical applicability.
- Manage the R&D budget effectively, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and demonstrable return on investment.
- Collaborate closely with operations, engineering, environmental, and safety departments to integrate new technologies and best practices.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and academic research to identify potential opportunities and threats.
- Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with research institutions, technology providers, and industry experts.
- Ensure all R&D activities comply with regulatory standards, environmental policies, and safety protocols.
- Present R&D findings, recommendations, and strategic roadmaps to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in research and development within the mining, metals, or heavy industrial sector.
- Proven track record of leading and managing R&D teams and projects from conception to successful implementation.
- Deep understanding of PGM mining and processing technologies, including comminution, flotation, and refining.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage R&D budgets effectively.
- Experience with intellectual property management and technology transfer.

- Published research papers or patents in relevant fields.
- Experience in computational modeling and simulation techniques for process optimization.
