Career.zycto is seeking an exceptional and visionary Director of Research & Development to lead our innovation pipeline in Chitungwiza, Harare Province. This pivotal role requires a strategic leader with a deep technical background and a proven track record in driving successful R&D initiatives from concept to commercialization. As Director of R&D, you will be responsible for defining our long-term technology roadmap, fostering a culture of scientific excellence, and ensuring our products and services remain at the cutting edge of the industry. You will build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of scientists and engineers, overseeing all aspects of research, experimentation, and product development cycles. This includes managing budgets, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory and quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the long-term R&D strategy and roadmap, aligning with overall business objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of R&D professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Oversee the entire product development lifecycle from ideation, feasibility studies, prototyping, testing, to successful launch.
- Manage the R&D budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and adherence to financial targets.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, market trends, and scientific advancements to maintain competitive advantage.
- Establish and maintain strong intellectual property strategies, protecting company innovations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, engineering, manufacturing, sales, and marketing teams to ensure seamless product integration and market success.
- Ensure all R&D activities comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality control protocols.
- Present R&D progress, challenges, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D department, optimizing processes and methodologies.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 13 years of progressive experience in Research & Development, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership/management role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex R&D projects from concept to commercialization.
- Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and innovation processes.
- Exceptional leadership, team-building, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resources, and project timelines effectively.
- Proficiency in strategic planning, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Deep technical expertise relevant to our industry (e.g., advanced materials, software development, biotechnology, etc.).
