Job Description
We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Director of Risk Management to join our executive leadership team in Bulawayo. This pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping and overseeing the bank’s enterprise-wide risk management framework, ensuring robust governance and compliance across all operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring all significant risks, including credit, market, operational, strategic, compliance, and reputational risks. You will lead a dedicated team, fostering a strong risk culture throughout the organization and providing strategic advice to the Board and executive management on emerging risk trends and their potential impact. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the bank's enterprise-wide risk management framework, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, measurement, monitoring, and reporting of all significant risks across the organization.
- Lead the risk management team, providing mentorship, guidance, and fostering a culture of risk awareness and accountability.
- Advise the Board and Executive Management on current and emerging risk exposures, regulatory changes, and their strategic implications.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local and international financial regulations and supervisory requirements.
- Develop and implement stress testing scenarios and capital adequacy frameworks (ICAAP) to assess the bank's resilience.
- Manage the bank's risk appetite framework, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and effective communication across stakeholders.
- Champion the integration of risk management principles into business processes, product development, and strategic decision-making.
- Oversee the development and implementation of robust business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders on all risk-related matters.
Required Skills
- Master's Degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in risk management within the banking or financial services industry, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven expertise in developing and implementing enterprise-wide risk management frameworks.
- In-depth knowledge of banking regulations, Basel Accords, and local financial statutes (e.g., Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe regulations).
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with executive management and board members.
- Proficiency in risk management software and data analytics tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
- Experience with advanced statistical modeling and machine learning applications in risk management.
- A doctorate degree in a relevant field.
