Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, person-centered support with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, and household tasks, as per individualized support plans.
  • Facilitate community engagement and participation in recreational, educational, and social activities to enhance quality of life and reduce social isolation.
  • Assist individuals in developing and achieving personal goals, fostering independence and self-advocacy.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided, observations, and progress, adhering to privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, their families, and other members of the support team to ensure coordinated and consistent care.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals, promoting respect, dignity, and inclusion within the community.
  • Respond to challenging situations with patience, empathy, and professionalism, utilizing de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Completion of a recognized community support worker program or related field (e.g., Health Care Assistant, Social Service Worker).
  • Experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities (volunteer experience is valued).
  • Knowledge of Person-Centered Planning principles.
