Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare examination rooms, sterilize instruments, and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are ready for patient examinations and procedures.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms, accurately take and record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, weight, height), and meticulously update patient medical history.
  • Assist doctors during medical examinations, minor surgical procedures, and various treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Efficiently manage patient scheduling, appointments, and maintain accurate, up-to-date electronic and physical patient records.
  • Handle patient inquiries, provide clear pre- and post-procedure instructions, and offer compassionate support and guidance.
  • Process patient payments, manage billing inquiries, and maintain financial records with utmost confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Order, manage, and monitor medical supplies and equipment inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels and expiry dates.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment, strictly adhering to all hygiene, sanitation, and safety protocols.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests as directed by the doctor, ensuring precise collection and handling of samples.
  • Facilitate seamless communication between patients, doctors, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Ensure strict adherence to patient privacy and confidentiality guidelines as per local and international data protection acts.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Certificate in Medical Assisting, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, or a related accredited healthcare field.
  • Minimum of 1.5 years (18 months) of proven experience as a Doctor Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Clinical Officer, preferably in a private clinic setting.
  • Proficiency in taking vital signs, assisting with minor procedures, wound dressing, and general patient care.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and patient confidentiality principles.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with a patient-centric approach.
  • Proficiency in using clinic management software, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office Suite).
  • Ability to multitask, work effectively under pressure, and adapt to the needs of a fast-paced medical environment.
  • A compassionate, empathetic, and professional demeanor when interacting with patients and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced First Aid.
  • Experience with specific Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems widely used in Kenyan private practices.
  • Fluency in local languages (e.g., Swahili, Giriama, Digo) in addition to excellent English communication skills.
