Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate General Doctor to join our dynamic medical team at Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, serving the Bell Village community and wider Port Louis area. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough medical examinations, diagnose illnesses, and provide appropriate treatment plans for patients across various departments.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests (e.g., blood tests, imaging scans) to inform clinical decisions.
  • Administer or prescribe medications, vaccinations, and other therapeutic interventions.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with specialist physicians, surgeons, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Provide clear, empathetic, and culturally sensitive communication to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient medical records in accordance with hospital policies and legal requirements.
  • Participate in ward rounds, clinical meetings, and continuing medical education programs.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide immediate life support when required.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and national healthcare regulations and ethical standards.
  • Educate patients and the public on disease prevention and health promotion.

Required Skills

  • Valid Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Full registration and license to practice medicine in Mauritius.
  • At least 3 years of post-internship clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and manage a wide range of general medical conditions.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and ethical medical practice.
  • Fluency in English and Mauritian Creole (French is a plus).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification or specialization in General Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
  • Experience in a public health system context.
  • Participation in medical research or publications.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to mentor junior staff.
