Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient consultations, physical examinations, and comprehensive health assessments for a diverse patient demographic.
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions, developing and implementing evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Provide appropriate and timely referrals to specialists for advanced diagnostic tests, consultations, or specialised treatments when clinically indicated.
  • Prescribe medications responsibly and ethically, adhering strictly to national guidelines, best practices, and local formularies.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential patient medical records using our advanced electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Actively participate in preventative health initiatives, including routine immunizations, health screenings, and providing essential lifestyle advice.
  • Collaborate effectively and professionally with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and administrative staff.
  • Engage diligently in continuous professional development (CPD) activities and consistently uphold the highest standards of medical ethics and patient confidentiality.
  • Provide immediate emergency care and respond promptly to urgent medical needs as situations arise.
  • Educate patients and their families comprehensively on health management strategies, various treatment options, and effective disease prevention techniques.
  • Contribute to clinical audits and quality improvement projects within the practice.

Required Skills

  • Full and unrestricted registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current Licence to Practise.
  • MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Significant and demonstrable clinical experience as a General Practitioner or Specialist within a primary or secondary care setting.
  • Proven expertise in clinical diagnosis, effective treatment planning, and holistic patient management across a broad spectrum of medical conditions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a proven ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and strong general IT literacy.
  • Unwavering commitment to patient-centered care, medical ethics, and professional integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as an integral part of a collaborative, high-performing team.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current clinical guidelines, medical best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) or an equivalent specialist qualification in a relevant medical field.
  • Possession of postgraduate qualifications or demonstrable special interests in areas such as geriatrics, women's health, paediatrics, mental health, or chronic disease management.
  • Previous experience working within the National Health Service (NHS) system, particularly in Scotland.
  • Familiarity with local healthcare pathways, referral systems, and community resources specific to Edinburgh.
  • Ability to speak additional languages commonly used within the local community in Gorgie, Edinburgh.
