Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize drilling programs, including casing design, drill string design, bit selection, and hydraulics.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations and simulations to ensure wellbore stability, efficient drilling, and well integrity.
- Monitor daily drilling operations, analyze performance data, and implement real-time adjustments to improve efficiency and mitigate risks.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, including prognoses, daily operational summaries, and end-of-well reports.
- Collaborate closely with geology, completions, and reservoir engineering teams to integrate drilling plans with overall field development strategies.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies throughout all drilling activities.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans for potential drilling hazards.
- Evaluate and recommend new drilling technologies, equipment, and best practices to enhance operational performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide technical support and guidance to field personnel.
- Participate in post-drilling reviews to capture lessons learned and apply them to future projects.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Drilling Engineer in the oil and gas industry.
- Proficiency in drilling engineering software (e.g., WellPlan, StressCheck, etc.).
- Strong understanding of drilling mechanics, well control, and drilling fluid properties.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
- Proven track record of ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario or eligibility to obtain.
- Experience with unconventional drilling techniques (e.g., horizontal drilling, multi-lateral wells).
- Familiarity with project management principles and software.
- Certifications in well control (e.g., IWCF or IADC).
