Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate and maintain a company-provided vehicle for daily logistics and delivery routes.
- Load, unload, prepare, inspect, and operate the delivery vehicle according to safety guidelines.
- Deliver a wide variety of items to different addresses and through various assigned routes.
- Follow routes and time schedules provided, adjusting as necessary for optimal efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Inspect vehicle for mechanical issues, safety equipment, and general roadworthiness daily, reporting any defects promptly.
- Complete logs and reports accurately and thoroughly, including delivery manifests, mileage, and fuel consumption records.
- Adhere to all local and national traffic laws and transportation regulations, ensuring safe driving practices at all times.
- Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner, providing excellent service and resolving minor issues.
- Handle unexpected situations on the road, such as traffic delays, accidents, or vehicle issues, with composure and good judgment.
- Maintain the cleanliness and proper functioning of the company vehicle, performing routine checks and basic maintenance.
- Assist with warehouse duties or other tasks as needed during periods of low delivery volume, demonstrating flexibility.
Required Skills
- Valid General Driver's License (e.g., Class C or equivalent for light commercial vehicles) in Jamaica
- Clean driving record for the past 3 years with no major infractions
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) as a delivery driver or in a similar transportation role
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliveries.
- Ability to operate a company vehicle safely, efficiently, and with respect for traffic laws.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective customer interaction.
- Good physical condition; ability to lift and carry packages (up to 50 lbs) and perform repetitive tasks.
- Thorough knowledge of local routes, geography, and traffic patterns within Portmore and surrounding areas.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent educational qualification
- Certification in defensive driving or advanced driver training
- Experience with GPS devices, mapping applications, and route optimization software
- Basic mechanical knowledge to perform minor vehicle checks and troubleshooting
- Prior experience in logistics, courier services, or freight transportation
