Job Description
Are you a proactive, engaging, and customer-focused individual with a passion for fresh produce and direct sales? Food & Allied Industries Ltd. (FAIL) is seeking a vibrant and dedicated Market Vendor to join our team in Chemin Grenier, Savanne District. This is an exciting opportunity to represent a leading Mauritian food company, connecting directly with our valued customers at local markets. As a Market Vendor, you will be the face of FAIL, responsible for setting up and managing our market stall, showcasing our range of premium products, and fostering strong relationships with consumers.
Your day will be dynamic, involving everything from meticulously arranging produce and products to attract customers, to actively engaging them in conversations about our offerings, their origins, and their benefits. You will manage inventory at the stall, handle cash and electronic payments accurately, and ensure our stall maintains impeccable cleanliness and presentation standards. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses excellent communication skills, and is committed to delivering exceptional customer service. Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently set up and dismantle market stalls, including arranging products attractively and ensuring visual merchandising standards are met.
- Engage proactively with customers, providing detailed information about products, promotions, and company values.
- Process sales transactions accurately using cash, card machines, and maintaining daily sales records.
- Manage and monitor stock levels at the stall, ensuring adequate supply and minimizing waste.
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the market stall and surrounding area in accordance with hygiene standards.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve minor issues professionally, escalating complex matters to management.
- Provide regular feedback to the sales and marketing teams regarding customer preferences, market trends, and product performance.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety and health regulations pertinent to market sales.
- Represent the company positively and professionally at all times, upholding brand image and reputation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a customer service or sales role (at least 1 year)
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic numeracy and experience with cash handling and point-of-sale systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift and carry items up to 15 kg, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a market vendor or in retail sales of fresh produce
- Knowledge of local agricultural products and seasonality
- Valid Mauritian driving license (Class 3 or higher)
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices
