Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a variety of ecological field surveys (e.g., protected species surveys, habitat surveys, botanical surveys) in accordance with relevant guidelines and best practice.
- Perform data analysis, interpretation of ecological findings, and prepare high-quality, technically sound ecological reports and assessments (e.g., PEAs, EcIAs, HRA screening).
- Develop and implement effective mitigation, compensation, and enhancement strategies to address ecological impacts of development projects.
- Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies (e.g., Natural England, Local Authorities), and other stakeholders to ensure project compliance and successful outcomes.
- Provide expert ecological advice during project design, planning, and construction phases.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation, policy, and best practice guidelines.
- Contribute to tender proposals and project management activities as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of professional ecological consultancy experience.
- Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
- Proficiency in Phase 1 Habitat Survey methodology and E.C.O.L.I.S. interpretation.
- Demonstrable experience with protected species surveys (e.g., bats, great crested newts, birds) and associated licensing requirements.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Possession of at least one protected species licence (e.g., Bat, GCN, Dormouse).
- Experience with GIS software for mapping and data analysis.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
- Experience in project management and client liaison.
