Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Economist to join our dynamic team in La Tour Koenig, Port Louis. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on local, regional, and international economic trends, market dynamics, and industry-specific developments.
- Develop and maintain econometric models for forecasting key economic variables, including GDP growth, inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates.
- Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, correlations, and causal relationships impacting business operations and strategic planning.
- Prepare detailed economic reports, presentations, and briefing notes for senior management, stakeholders, and external partners.
- Monitor and assess the impact of monetary and fiscal policies, regulatory changes, and geopolitical events on the financial sector and broader economy.
- Provide expert commentary and insights on economic issues to internal teams and, when required, to external media.
- Collaborate with various business units to integrate economic insights into their strategies and decision-making processes.
- Stay abreast of advancements in economic theory, data analytics tools, and financial market developments.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in economic research, data analysis, or a similar role, preferably within the financial services industry.
- Proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., R, Python, SAS, Stata) for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and econometric modeling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to articulate complex economic concepts clearly and concisely.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Solid understanding of macroeconomic principles, financial markets, and regulatory environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Economics or a related quantitative field.
- Experience with financial modeling and risk assessment.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
