Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Education Officer with a strong focus on Planning & Development to join our dedicated team in Curepipe. This critical role involves contributing significantly to the strategic planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs and initiatives across various levels of the Mauritian education system. The successful candidate will be instrumental in conducting needs assessments, developing curriculum frameworks, formulating educational policies, and managing projects that enhance learning outcomes and teacher professional development. You will work collaboratively with internal departments, external stakeholders, and educational partners to ensure the relevance, quality, and effectiveness of our educational offerings. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research and needs assessments to identify gaps and opportunities in the national education system.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and revision of curriculum frameworks, syllabi, and teaching materials for various educational levels.
  • Formulate and recommend educational policies and strategies to improve pedagogical practices and learning outcomes.
  • Lead or participate in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of educational development projects and programs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, educational institutions, government bodies, and NGOs to ensure alignment and effective delivery of educational initiatives.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, proposals, and presentations on educational trends, project progress, and policy recommendations.
  • Organise and facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions for educators on new curricula, methodologies, and educational technologies.
  • Stay abreast of local and international best practices in education planning and development, integrating relevant innovations into MIE's work.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on educational matters to internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of educational theory, curriculum development, and instructional design principles.
  • Proven experience in educational project planning, management, and evaluation.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and report-writing skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English and French (Creole is an advantage).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Planning, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
  • Experience in policy analysis and development within the education sector.
  • Familiarity with the Mauritian education system and its current challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and statistical software.
