Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
  • Provide medication reminders and monitor clients' health status, reporting any significant changes to the appropriate contact.
  • Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary restrictions and preferences, and assist with feeding if necessary.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as laundry, tidying living areas, and grocery shopping.
  • Offer companionship and engage clients in stimulating activities like conversations, reading, games, or gentle exercises.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and ambulation using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Accompany clients to appointments, errands, and social outings.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized living environment for the client.
  • Document care provided and observations accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and our support team.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and compassion for the elderly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written English).
  • Ability to perform light housekeeping and meal preparation.
  • Physical ability to assist with mobility and transfers as needed.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Basic understanding of first aid and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Caregiver certification (e.g., Personal Support Worker, Health Care Aide).
  • Previous experience (paid or unpaid) in elderly care or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of basic health monitoring (e.g., blood pressure, temperature).
  • Multilingual abilities, especially in languages common within the Fort McMurray community.
