Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer specializing in Building Installation to join our growing team in Thika, Kiambu County. This pivotal role involves overseeing and executing the electrical design, installation, and commissioning of complex building systems for various projects, ranging from commercial complexes to industrial facilities and residential developments. We are looking for an individual with a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, a meticulous eye for detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient electrical infrastructure.

As an Electrical Engineer focused on building installation, you will be instrumental in transforming architectural visions into functional realities. Your expertise will cover power distribution, lighting design, fire alarm systems, data networks, security systems, and renewable energy integration. You will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical installations comply with national and international standards, local regulations, and client specifications. This involves preparing detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and bill of quantities, as well as supervising on-site work, conducting quality checks, and resolving any technical challenges that arise during the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop comprehensive electrical systems for various building projects, ensuring compliance with local and international standards (e.g., KEBS, IEC).
  • Prepare detailed electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, and bill of quantities (BOQ) using CAD software.
  • Supervise and coordinate on-site electrical installation works, ensuring adherence to design specifications, safety protocols, and project timelines.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and quality checks of installed electrical systems, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or defects.
  • Perform testing and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems, including power distribution, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and standby generators.
  • Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers to integrate electrical designs seamlessly with other building systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to installation teams and contractors, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Prepare project reports, progress updates, and documentation for all electrical works.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements in electrical engineering and building services.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • At least 4 years of progressive experience in electrical design and installation for building projects.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP).
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in power distribution, lighting design, fire alarm systems, and data/telecom installations.
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
  • Membership in the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
  • Experience with renewable energy systems integration (solar PV).
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Post-graduate diploma or Master's degree in a relevant field.
