We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems and Maintenance to join our growing team in the vibrant Cathedral Quarter of Belfast. This pivotal role involves the design, analysis, installation, and ongoing maintenance of complex electrical power distribution systems and associated control infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical power systems, including single-line diagrams, schematics, and layouts, adhering to relevant codes and standards (e.g., BS 7671, IEC, NFPA).
- Conduct detailed power system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash studies, using industry-standard software.
- Develop and implement robust maintenance strategies, preventive maintenance schedules, and fault-finding procedures for electrical equipment and systems.
- Perform on-site inspections, diagnostic testing, and troubleshooting of electrical faults in power distribution, motor control, and automation systems.
- Specify, evaluate, and procure electrical components, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, and protection devices.
- Manage and oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of new electrical systems and upgrades, ensuring compliance and quality.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, documentation, and project specifications for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality management systems.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers, technicians, and project teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of solutions.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in electrical power systems design, analysis, and maintenance.
- Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) and power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, Neplan, PSS/E).
- Strong understanding of national and international electrical codes and standards (e.g., BS 7671, IEC, NFPA 70E).
- Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting complex electrical faults and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear technical reporting and collaborative client interaction.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively within a diverse team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards it.
- Experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and industrial automation control.
- Familiarity with renewable energy systems, battery storage, and grid integration technologies.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) or equivalent demonstrable project leadership experience.
