Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer with a specialized focus on Power Systems and Maintenance to join our dedicated team in Old Trafford, Manchester. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our power distribution networks and associated electrical equipment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle of electrical systems, from design review and implementation oversight to proactive maintenance and rapid fault diagnosis. This involves a deep understanding of high and low voltage systems, control panels, switchgear, generators, and UPS systems. You will play a key role in developing and implementing maintenance strategies, conducting root cause analysis for electrical failures, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reduce downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement maintenance programs for electrical power systems and equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure, including high/low voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, and control panels.
  • Diagnose complex electrical faults and execute effective repair strategies to minimize downtime.
  • Manage and oversee electrical projects, ensuring adherence to specifications, budgets, and timelines.
  • Ensure all electrical works comply with current IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), health & safety legislation, and company standards.
  • Perform root cause analysis for electrical failures and implement preventative measures.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and facilities teams to optimize system integration and performance.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and electrical drawings.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and maintenance technicians.
  • Identify opportunities for system upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and technological advancements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of power systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of high and low voltage electrical distribution systems, switchgear, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of relevant UK electrical regulations and safety standards (e.g., BS 7671, H&S at Work Act).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and test equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
  • Experience with SCADA systems or other industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with energy management systems and sustainable electrical solutions.
  • Project management experience in an engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and battery systems.
