Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems & Maintenance to join our dynamic team in Gledhow, Leeds. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of complex electrical power distribution systems. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our electrical infrastructure, from high-voltage switchgear to control panels and motor drives. You will apply your analytical skills to diagnose faults, implement corrective actions, and proactively identify opportunities for system optimization and upgrades, ensuring compliance with all relevant industry standards and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Design, specify, and oversee the installation of electrical power systems, including switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, and protective relaying.
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and systems, diagnosing complex faults and implementing effective repair strategies.
- Perform power system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, and coordination studies.
- Develop and maintain detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and documentation using CAD software.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with national and international electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., BS 7671, EN 50110).
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on new projects, expansions, and system upgrades from conception to commissioning.
- Manage and coordinate with contractors and external vendors for specialized electrical services and equipment procurement.
- Implement energy efficiency initiatives and recommend system improvements for enhanced performance and reduced operational costs.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining power distribution systems (LV and HV).
- Strong understanding of protective relaying, SCADA systems, and industrial automation (PLCs).
- Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
- Solid knowledge of UK electrical safety regulations and industry standards.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and diagnostic skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
- Experience with power system simulation software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E).
- Familiarity with renewable energy integration into power grids.
