Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and functional checks on electrical systems and equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions, power outages, and system failures using appropriate testing devices and methodologies.
- Read and accurately interpret complex electrical blueprints, schematics, technical diagrams, and wiring specifications.
- Ensure all electrical installations and repairs comply with local and national electrical codes (e.g., ERC, KEBS) and rigorous safety regulations.
- Execute emergency repairs quickly and efficiently to minimize operational downtime and ensure business continuity.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to ensure seamless project execution and adherence to timelines.
- Provide technical support, guidance, and on-the-job training to junior technicians and apprentices.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance, repair work performed, materials used, and equipment serviced.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, specialized diagnostic equipment, and lifting apparatus.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, promoting a culture of safety on all job sites.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a skilled Electrical Technician (minimum 3 years in a similar role).
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, control circuits, and components.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and circuit diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for complex electrical faults.
- Familiarity with various testing equipment, including multimeters, clamp meters, and oscilloscopes.
- Excellent understanding of health and safety regulations and electrical codes (e.g., ERC, KEBS) in Kenya.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a diverse team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining technical issues clearly.
- Demonstrated problem-solving aptitude and critical thinking abilities.
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity required for hands-on electrical work and lifting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Valid Wireman's License (Grade 1 or 2) or equivalent certification from a relevant regulatory body.
- Experience with industrial automation and control systems (e.g., PLCs, VFDs, motor control centers).
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems installation and maintenance (e.g., solar PV, generators, inverters).
- First Aid and basic Safety certification.
- Valid driving license with experience driving in Nairobi.
