Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Electrical Technician with a strong focus on wiring and installation to join our dynamic team in Rubavu, serving the Lake Kivu Shore region. This full-time position is crucial for maintaining the integrity and expansion of our electrical infrastructure, ensuring consistent and safe power supply to our valued customers. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, components, and equipment across various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial sites. This role requires an individual with meticulous attention to detail, a deep understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving. You will work closely with our engineering and operations teams, contributing directly to projects that range from new grid connections and upgrades to routine maintenance and emergency repairs. Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, ensuring compliance with national electrical codes and company standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions, power outages, and system failures using appropriate testing devices.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on electrical systems to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine the layout of electrical systems.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and installation work performed.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians or apprentices as required.
- Collaborate with other departments and external contractors to complete projects efficiently and effectively.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Electrical Technician with a focus on wiring and installation.
- Strong knowledge of electrical principles, wiring regulations, and safety standards (e.g., IEC standards, Rwandan electrical codes).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Competency in using a variety of electrical testing equipment (multimeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for complex electrical issues.
- Physical stamina and dexterity for working in various conditions and environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Diploma (A1) or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-mechanics, or a related field.
- Professional certification in electrical installation or maintenance.
- Experience with power distribution systems, transformers, and switchgear.
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems (solar PV, small hydro) is a plus.
- Valid Rwandan driving license (Category B or higher).
