Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on electrical systems, wiring, and equipment across various Safaricom facilities and network sites, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical malfunctions, power outages, and system failures using appropriate testing equipment and advanced diagnostic methods.
- Install new electrical systems, components, and wiring according to detailed blueprints, schematics, and all relevant electrical codes and industry standards (e.g., Kenya Electrical Regulations).
- Conduct precise repairs and replacements of faulty electrical components, including circuit breakers, switches, outlets, transformers, and intricate control panels.
- Ensure all electrical work strictly complies with national and international safety standards, company policies, and best practices to maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform thorough inspections of electrical systems to identify potential hazards, recommend necessary upgrades, and ensure overall operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and installations, including material usage, time spent, and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with other technical teams and external contractors to seamlessly integrate new systems and resolve inter-departmental issues.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to emergency electrical calls and perform urgent repairs to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental guidelines and actively promote a strong culture of safety within the workplace and among colleagues.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a licensed Electrician, with at least 4 years of practical experience in technical electrical work.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, wiring diagrams, schematics, and control systems.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, voltage testers, insulation testers, circuit tracers).
- Strong understanding of national electrical codes (e.g., Kenya Electrical Regulations) and international safety regulations.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex electrical issues.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and prioritize work effectively.
- Physical stamina and dexterity for performing manual tasks, including lifting, bending, climbing, and working in various environments.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or a closely related technical field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Electrical Wireman/Technician License, KNEC Technician Certificate).
- Experience working in a telecommunications, data center, or critical infrastructure environment.
- Knowledge of power generation systems (generators, UPS, solar) and HVAC electrical components.
- Proficiency in computer-based maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar platforms.
