Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Coordinator to lead our critical humanitarian operations in Caia, Sofala Province. As the Emergency Coordinator, you will be at the forefront of our efforts, responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive emergency preparedness and response programs. You will play a pivotal role in protecting vulnerable populations, ensuring timely and effective assistance reaches those most in need. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and regularly update comprehensive emergency preparedness and response plans tailored to the specific context of Caia and Sofala Province.
  • Lead and coordinate rapid assessment missions in response to emergencies, accurately identifying needs, risks, and available resources.
  • Manage and oversee the effective implementation of emergency projects, ensuring adherence to humanitarian standards, organizational policies, and donor requirements.
  • Mobilize, supervise, and provide technical guidance to emergency response teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with local government agencies, UN bodies, NGOs, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting on emergency activities, including situation reports, donor reports, and internal programmatic updates.
  • Oversee the prudent management of project budgets and resources, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial and logistical operations.
  • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives for local staff and partners, enhancing their skills in emergency preparedness and response.
  • Represent Career.zycto at relevant coordination meetings, advocating for the needs of affected populations and promoting effective inter-agency collaboration.
  • Conduct continuous monitoring and evaluation of emergency interventions, adapting strategies as needed to optimize impact and efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in emergency management, humanitarian aid, or disaster response.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing multidisciplinary teams in complex and challenging environments.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage emergency preparedness and response programs.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with experience in rapid needs assessments and strategic planning.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential; proficiency in Portuguese is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of humanitarian principles, international humanitarian law, and accountability standards (e.g., Sphere Standards).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Disaster Management, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience working in Mozambique or similar fragile contexts.
  • Certification in specific emergency response areas (e.g., HESPER, HEAT, First Aid).
  • Familiarity with grant management and donor reporting for humanitarian projects.
