In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing and resolving complex employee relations issues, providing expert guidance to managers and employees, and ensuring our policies and practices align with employment laws and company values. You will be a trusted advisor, proactively addressing workplace challenges, conducting thorough investigations, and recommending effective resolutions that promote fairness and respect. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations inquiries, providing expert advice and guidance to employees and managers on a wide range of workplace issues.
- Conduct thorough, impartial, and timely investigations into employee grievances, complaints, and policy violations, including harassment, discrimination, and misconduct.
- Develop and implement effective strategies for conflict resolution, mediation, and disciplinary actions, ensuring consistency and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Partner with HR Business Partners, legal counsel, and management to address complex employee relations cases and mitigate potential risks.
- Ensure all employee relations activities adhere to federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., BC Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code).
- Analyze employee relations trends and data to identify systemic issues and recommend proactive solutions, policy enhancements, and training initiatives.
- Develop and deliver training programs for managers and employees on topics such as conflict resolution, performance management, respectful workplace, and policy interpretation.
- Draft and review disciplinary documents, performance improvement plans, and separation agreements.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential documentation of all employee relations cases and investigations.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures, and employee relations frameworks.
- Promote a culture of open communication, trust, and mutual respect across the organization.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in an Employee Relations or HR Generalist role with a strong ER focus.
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting workplace investigations from intake to resolution.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian (specifically BC) employment law, human rights legislation, and best practices in employee relations.
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and handle sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on fair and equitable outcomes.
- Ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Experience working in a remote or distributed work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPHR designation (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) or equivalent.
- Experience in a fast-paced technology or startup environment.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems and case management tools.
- Experience developing and delivering employee relations training.
