Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
- Help with patient transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
- Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and accurately record observations.
- Assist patients with feeding and ensure adequate nutritional intake, reporting any concerns to the nursing staff.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe patient environment, including changing bed linens and tidying rooms.
- Respond promptly to patient call bells and attend to their immediate needs.
- Document care provided and patient observations accurately in patient charts or electronic records.
- Assist nurses with basic medical procedures and treatments under direct supervision.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, fostering a comforting atmosphere.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including infection control.
- Report any changes in patient condition or behavior to the registered nurse immediately.
- Transport patients within the hospital as needed for tests, therapies, or procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and training programs as required.
Required Skills
- Completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant Certificate program or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of patient care principles and medical terminology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong empathy and compassion for patients.
- Physical stamina to perform duties that require standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
- Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior volunteer experience in a healthcare setting.
- First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Familiarity with hospital-specific electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Ability to speak local languages in addition to English and Swahili.
