As an Entry-Level Nursing Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the daily care of our patients, working closely with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of patient comfort and well-being. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility.
  • Help with patient transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
  • Monitor vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and accurately record observations.
  • Assist patients with feeding and ensure adequate nutritional intake, reporting any concerns to the nursing staff.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe patient environment, including changing bed linens and tidying rooms.
  • Respond promptly to patient call bells and attend to their immediate needs.
  • Document care provided and patient observations accurately in patient charts or electronic records.
  • Assist nurses with basic medical procedures and treatments under direct supervision.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, fostering a comforting atmosphere.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including infection control.
  • Report any changes in patient condition or behavior to the registered nurse immediately.
  • Transport patients within the hospital as needed for tests, therapies, or procedures.
  • Participate in continuing education and training programs as required.

Required Skills

  • Completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant Certificate program or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of patient care principles and medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong empathy and compassion for patients.
  • Physical stamina to perform duties that require standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
  • Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior volunteer experience in a healthcare setting.
  • First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Familiarity with hospital-specific electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to speak local languages in addition to English and Swahili.
