As an Entry-Level Tile Setter, you will be part of a supportive crew, learning directly from experienced professionals. Your daily tasks will involve assisting with various stages of tile installation, from preparing surfaces to mixing grout and laying tiles. Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced tile setters with the preparation of surfaces, including cleaning, leveling, and applying waterproofing membranes.
- Learn and practice proper techniques for mixing thin-set mortar, grout, and other setting materials.
- Help with the safe and efficient cutting of tiles using various tools, such as wet saws and tile nippers.
- Support the layout and placement of tiles, ensuring correct patterns, spacing, and alignment.
- Assist in grouting and cleaning newly installed tile surfaces.
- Transport materials and tools to and from job sites.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering strictly to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Attend and actively participate in all training sessions and workshops.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project progress and any issues encountered.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to learning and improving tile setting skills.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and prolonged standing/bending
- Basic understanding of measurements and angles
- Reliable transportation to various job sites in the Merrillville area
- Positive attitude and a strong desire to learn a skilled trade
