Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior environmental staff with fieldwork, including site inspections, sampling (soil, water, air), and monitoring activities.
- Accurately collect, record, and manage environmental data, ensuring quality and integrity.
- Prepare and organize field equipment and supplies for various project sites.
- Conduct basic research to support environmental assessments and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of environmental reports, permits, and other technical documentation.
- Liaise with laboratories for sample submission, tracking, and results retrieval.
- Maintain comprehensive project files and documentation, both physical and digital.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols and best practices.
- Support office-based tasks, including data entry, administrative duties, and project coordination as needed.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance environmental knowledge and skills.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driving record for travel to field sites.
- Physical ability to perform fieldwork, which may include lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of environmental principles and concepts.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience (academic projects, volunteer work, or internship) in environmental fieldwork or laboratory settings.
- Familiarity with GIS software or data management systems.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations (e.g., Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
