Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior project staff in conducting environmental surveys, data collection, and monitoring activities in forest and community areas.
- Participate actively in tree planting activities, forest restoration initiatives, and the daily management of community nurseries.
- Engage sensitively and effectively with local communities to support community-based conservation activities and gather valuable feedback.
- Operate, maintain, and ensure the functionality and safety of basic field equipment, including GPS devices and data loggers.
- Accurately record, organize, and submit field data, including observations, measurements, and photographic evidence, using specified tools and formats.
- Provide essential logistical support for field missions, which includes preparing equipment, supplies, and arranging transport.
- Assist in the thorough preparation of field reports, activity summaries, and other documentation as required.
- Actively participate in community awareness and education campaigns focused on environmental conservation and sustainable resource use.
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities to track project progress, assess impact, and inform adaptive management strategies.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental guidelines, and TFCG policies and procedures during all fieldwork activities.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrated physical fitness and ability to work in challenging outdoor environments, including walking long distances over uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions.
- Strong, genuine interest in environmental conservation, forestry, natural resource management, or related fields.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate data recording and report preparation.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously, demonstrating initiative and working effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and constructively with diverse community members and colleagues.
- Willingness to live and work primarily in Ngwachani, Vitongoji, or surrounding rural areas, often for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Diploma or advanced certificate in Forestry, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Community Development, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in Swahili and a basic understanding of English. Knowledge of local dialects commonly spoken in Ngwachani, Vitongoji, and surrounding areas is a significant advantage.
- Previous volunteer experience or active involvement in environmental initiatives, community projects, or conservation clubs.
- Basic computer literacy, including experience with data entry on tablets or smartphones.
- Prior experience living or working in rural Tanzanian communities, demonstrating an understanding of local customs and challenges.
- Possession of a valid motorcycle riding license is an added advantage.
