Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental sampling (soil, water, air, sediment, waste) following established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain various field instruments and sampling equipment.
- Accurately document field observations, sample details, and chain-of-custody information.
- Package, label, and prepare samples for shipment to analytical laboratories.
- Perform on-site quality control checks and data validation.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, including site-specific safety plans.
- Assist with the setup and demobilization of field equipment and temporary monitoring stations.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, laboratory personnel, and clients.
- Maintain detailed field logs, complete necessary reports, and enter data into databases.
- Conduct basic field measurements such as pH, temperature, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in environmental field sampling techniques.
- Strong understanding of health and safety protocols (e.g., HAZWOPER certification is a plus).
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot field instrumentation.
- Excellent data collection and record-keeping abilities.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions and terrains.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of proven experience in environmental field sampling.
- Knowledge of German environmental regulations (e.g., BBodSchV, TrinkwV).
- Experience with GPS/GIS mapping tools for site navigation and data collection.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with specific sampling equipment (e.g., peristaltic pumps, bailers, Hapsite).
- Proficiency in German (B1 level or higher).
