Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental sampling (soil, water, air, sediment, waste) following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain various field instruments and sampling equipment.
  • Accurately document field observations, sample details, and chain-of-custody information.
  • Package, label, and prepare samples for shipment to analytical laboratories.
  • Perform on-site quality control checks and data validation.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, including site-specific safety plans.
  • Assist with the setup and demobilization of field equipment and temporary monitoring stations.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, laboratory personnel, and clients.
  • Maintain detailed field logs, complete necessary reports, and enter data into databases.
  • Conduct basic field measurements such as pH, temperature, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in environmental field sampling techniques.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety protocols (e.g., HAZWOPER certification is a plus).
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot field instrumentation.
  • Excellent data collection and record-keeping abilities.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions and terrains.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of proven experience in environmental field sampling.
  • Knowledge of German environmental regulations (e.g., BBodSchV, TrinkwV).
  • Experience with GPS/GIS mapping tools for site navigation and data collection.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with specific sampling equipment (e.g., peristaltic pumps, bailers, Hapsite).
  • Proficiency in German (B1 level or higher).
