Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections of food service establishments, public swimming pools, and other regulated facilities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health regulations.
- Investigate environmental health complaints, including foodborne illness outbreaks, nuisance conditions, and unsanitary living conditions, gathering evidence and recommending corrective actions.
- Collect and analyze environmental samples (e.g., water, air, soil) to assess potential health risks and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Provide public education and outreach on topics such as food safety, waste reduction, vector control, and general hygiene practices.
- Prepare detailed reports, maintain accurate records, and issue permits, notices, or citations as required by regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with other public health professionals, government agencies, and community groups on environmental health initiatives and emergency response efforts.
- Stay current with developments in environmental health science, regulations, and best practices through ongoing training and professional development.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of environmental health principles and public health regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports and public interaction
- Ability to conduct thorough inspections and investigations with attention to detail
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and basic computer applications (MS Office Suite)
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various sites within the service area
