Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive Environmental Health Officer to join a dynamic team serving the Wetherby and wider Leeds area. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections and audits of commercial premises (e.g., food establishments, workplaces, residential properties) to ensure compliance with relevant environmental health legislation.
- Investigate complaints related to food safety, health and safety, nuisance, pollution, and public health, taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to businesses, residents, and stakeholders on best practices and legal requirements concerning environmental health.
- Prepare detailed reports, statutory notices, and legal documentation for enforcement purposes, and present evidence in court or at tribunals if required.
- Respond to and manage incidents and emergencies that have an environmental health impact, such as disease outbreaks or pollution incidents.
- Participate in planned projects and initiatives aimed at improving public health and environmental quality within the community.
- Collaborate effectively with internal departments, external agencies, and other regulatory bodies.
- Maintain accurate records and casework using relevant IT systems, ensuring data protection and confidentiality.
- Stay updated with changes in environmental health legislation, policies, and best practices.
Required Skills
- A degree or diploma in Environmental Health recognized by the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or equivalent international qualification eligible for UK registration.
- Demonstrable knowledge of UK environmental health legislation and practices (training provided for transition).
- Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in using standard office software and casework management systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing a diverse caseload effectively.
- Full valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use (or ability to travel across the district).
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or actively working towards it.
- Previous experience working as an Environmental Health Officer in a local authority or similar regulatory body.
- Knowledge of specific environmental health disciplines such as food hygiene, housing, or pollution control.
- Additional language skills are advantageous but not essential.
