Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and skilled EPA Scientist to join our dynamic team in the vibrant Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring environmental compliance, conducting critical scientific assessments, and contributing to the development and implementation of environmental policies that safeguard our communities and natural resources.
As an EPA Scientist, you will dive deep into complex environmental data, interpret federal and state regulations, and provide expert guidance on a variety of environmental issues, including air quality, water resources, hazardous waste management, and site remediation. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive environmental sampling and data collection in accordance with EPA protocols and guidelines.
- Perform rigorous data analysis, interpretation, and visualization to identify trends, risks, and compliance issues related to air, water, and soil quality.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, scientific memoranda, and presentations summarizing findings and recommending corrective actions or policy adjustments.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., CWA, CAA, RCRA, CERCLA) to ensure project compliance.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, industry representatives, and community groups.
- Participate in site assessments, inspections, and investigations to evaluate environmental conditions and assess potential impacts.
- Stay abreast of emerging environmental science research, regulatory updates, and best practices to inform scientific recommendations.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental consulting, regulatory compliance, or research related to EPA standards
- Strong understanding of federal environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA)
- Proficiency in environmental data management, statistical analysis, and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, R, Python)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Proven ability to conduct field investigations and collect environmental samples (air, water, soil)
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline
- Direct experience working with or for the EPA or state environmental agencies
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification
- Experience with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWAT)
- Familiarity with Kansas City specific environmental regulations and geological characteristics
