Job Description
National Foods Limited is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operator to join our dynamic team in Bulawayo Province. This pivotal role involves operating a variety of heavy machinery and equipment within our manufacturing and logistics operations to ensure the efficient movement, processing, and storage of raw materials and finished goods. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment such as forklifts, front-end loaders, excavators, and other specialized machinery as required, depending on the specific operational needs of the plant or depot. You will play a crucial role in maintaining productivity targets, adhering to strict safety protocols, and contributing to the overall operational excellence of our facility. This position demands keen attention to detail, a strong understanding of machinery mechanics, and a proactive approach to equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery and equipment safely and efficiently, including but not limited to forklifts, front-end loaders, and excavators, as assigned.
- Perform routine pre-operation and post-operation checks on equipment, including fluid levels, tires, brakes, and lights, and report any defects or malfunctions immediately.
- Load, unload, and move materials, products, and waste within the facility or designated areas.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure equipment is properly stored when not in use.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to optimize workflow and achieve operational targets.
- Assist with minor equipment maintenance and cleaning tasks as required.
- Complete daily logs, maintenance records, and other relevant documentation accurately.
- Identify and report potential hazards or unsafe working conditions to management.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent damage or loss.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) operating heavy machinery in a manufacturing, logistics, or industrial environment.
- Valid operator's license/certificate relevant to the equipment to be operated (e.g., forklift license, earthmoving equipment competency).
- Strong understanding of equipment operation, controls, and safety mechanisms.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- A relevant trade certificate or vocational qualification in plant operations or mechanics.
- Experience with multiple types of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to industrial operations in Zimbabwe.
- Ability to perform basic routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
