Job Description

Are you an experienced and resilient individual with a profound passion for the sea and a proven track record in commercial fishing? Princes Tuna Mauritius is seeking dedicated and skilled Commercial Fishermen to join our dynamic marine operations team. This is a demanding yet incredibly rewarding full-time position that calls for exceptional physical stamina, a keen understanding of maritime safety, and an unwavering commitment to sustainable fishing practices. As a Commercial Fisherman with us, you will be an integral part of our mission to sustainably harvest and deliver high-quality seafood from the rich waters of the Indian Ocean. You will work on board our modern fishing vessels, often spending extended periods at sea, where you will engage in all aspects of fishing operations, from deploying and retrieving various types of fishing gear to handling and preserving the catch according to stringent quality and safety standards. The role requires adaptability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a challenging marine environment, working closely with a diverse crew. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain various types of fishing gear, including nets, lines, and traps, safely and efficiently.
  • Actively participate in the deployment, retrieval, and mending of fishing equipment.
  • Handle, sort, clean, and store catch according to company and industry quality standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on vessel equipment, machinery, and fishing gear.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, procedures, and regulations while on board and at sea.
  • Participate in watch duties as assigned by the vessel's Captain or First Mate.
  • Assist with loading and unloading supplies, equipment, and catch at port.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the vessel and living quarters.
  • Communicate effectively with the Captain and other crew members, contributing to a cohesive team environment.
  • Monitor weather conditions and vessel performance, reporting any issues promptly.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience as a commercial fisherman or deckhand.
  • Exceptional physical fitness and stamina, capable of performing strenuous tasks for long hours.
  • Basic knowledge of maritime safety procedures and regulations.
  • Proficiency in knot tying and basic rigging.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a confined and challenging environment.
  • Strong work ethic and resilience, with the ability to adapt to changing conditions at sea.
  • Valid medical certificate for sea service.
  • Understanding of basic vessel operations and navigation principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant maritime certifications (e.g., STCW Basic Safety Training, Efficient Deck Hand).
  • Experience with specific fishing methods relevant to the Indian Ocean (e.g., purse-seine, longline).
  • Mechanical aptitude for basic engine and equipment troubleshooting.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fluency in English and/or French, Creole is a significant advantage.
