Job Description

Are you a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Nurse Healthcare Professional eager to make a tangible difference in a vibrant community? St. Joseph’s Shelter of Hope is seeking an experienced nurse to join our dedicated team in Voi, Taita-Taveta County. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to our clients, with a strong emphasis on community health, patient education, and the prevention and management of various health conditions, including HIV/AIDS. You will be instrumental in conducting patient assessments, administering treatments, maintaining accurate medical records, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of care. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care, including patient assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by medical practitioners, adhering strictly to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date patient records and confidential information.
  • Conduct health education sessions for individuals, families, and community groups on various health topics, including disease prevention, nutrition, hygiene, and HIV/AIDS awareness.
  • Collaborate with doctors, clinical officers, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor patients' conditions, document changes, and report critical observations to the medical team.
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of community outreach programs and mobile clinics.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection control policies and safety regulations within the facility and during community visits.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Offer empathetic support and counseling to patients and their families, particularly those dealing with chronic illnesses and challenging circumstances.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven nursing experience, preferably in a community health setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse patient populations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications for record keeping and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Experience in HIV/AIDS care, maternal and child health, or public health programs.
  • Training in counseling and psychological support.
  • Fluency in Swahili and English; knowledge of local dialects is an added advantage.
