Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pipefitter to join our dedicated project team in Chitungwiza, Harare Province. This vital role at Masimba Holdings Limited will involve the precision installation, expert assembly, careful fabrication, and meticulous maintenance and repair of various piping systems. These systems are crucial for managing water, waste, steam, hydraulics, and other process liquids and gases across our diverse construction and civil engineering projects. Your profound expertise will be instrumental in guaranteeing the structural integrity, optimal functionality, and absolute safety of our installations. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, demonstrating the ability to accurately interpret complex blueprints, perform precise measurements, and expertly cut, thread, bend, and weld pipes to exact specifications. A critical aspect of this role includes conducting thorough pressure tests to ensure all systems are entirely leak-free and compliant with industry standards. You will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other skilled tradespeople, ensuring seamless coordination and timely completion of all piping work. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, and detailed technical drawings to determine precise pipe layouts, angles, and dimensions.
- Expertly cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes using a comprehensive array of specialized tools and equipment, including pipe cutters, bending machines, and advanced welding apparatus.
- Install and rigorously maintain various piping systems, including their supports, and associated hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Perform high-quality welding (e.g., Arc, TIG, MIG), brazing, soldering, and cementing techniques to securely join pipe sections and fittings.
- Conduct thorough hydrostatic, pneumatic, and other integrity tests on piping systems to detect, diagnose, and efficiently repair any leaks.
- Proactively inspect and repair existing piping systems, ensuring full compliance with stringent safety regulations and quality assurance standards.
- Strategically select and procure appropriate pipe materials, including but not limited to steel, copper, plastic, and composite materials, based on precise project specifications.
- Ensure all work strictly adheres to occupational safety regulations, local building codes, and established company policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including plumbers, welders, and engineers, to ensure optimal project coordination and operational efficiency.
- Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and safe work environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored, maintained, and in excellent working order.
Required Skills
- Exceptional proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Demonstrated expertise in various pipe joining techniques, including advanced welding (Arc, TIG, MIG), brazing, soldering, and solvent welding.
- Comprehensive familiarity with diverse pipe materials such as steel, copper, PVC, CPVC, and HDPE.
- Strong understanding and practical application of safety protocols and best practices in dynamic construction environments.
- Competency in using a wide range of hand and power tools essential for pipefitting tasks.
- Excellent mathematical skills for precise measurements, calculations, and material estimation.
- Required physical stamina, dexterity, and strength to perform demanding tasks and work effectively in various environmental conditions.
- Proven ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as a vital part of a larger project team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of an Apprenticeship certificate or accredited vocational training in Pipefitting or a closely related skilled trade.
- Certifications in specific welding techniques (e.g., AWS, ASME) are highly advantageous.
- Prior experience working on large-scale civil engineering, industrial, or complex infrastructure projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of local building codes and regulations pertaining to piping systems within Zimbabwe.
- A valid, unrestricted driver's license.
