Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., rigid trucks, articulated lorries) for the transportation of goods and materials.
  • Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all systems are in good working order.
  • Safely load and unload cargo, securing it properly to prevent damage during transit.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery receipts, and all required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and colleagues regarding delivery schedules, delays, and issues.
  • Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness, reporting any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
  • Plan routes efficiently, considering road conditions, traffic, and delivery deadlines.
  • Represent Velogic professionally at all times, ensuring excellent customer service during deliveries.
  • Assist with warehouse operations or other duties as required during non-driving periods.

Required Skills

  • Valid heavy vehicle driving license (e.g., Group 2, 3, or equivalent for articulated vehicles in Mauritius).
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven commercial truck driving experience.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Thorough knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices.
  • Physical ability to load, unload, and secure cargo, and to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and/or French (Creole proficiency is a plus).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with various types of cargo and delivery procedures.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices and route optimization software.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle troubleshooting.
  • Certification in defensive driving or advanced driver training.
  • Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.
