Job Description
Velogic is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Truck Driver to join our dynamic logistics team in Vallee Pitot, Port Louis. As an essential part of our operations, you will be responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of various freight and goods across Mauritius. This role involves operating heavy-duty trucks to pick up, transport, and deliver items to our clients and warehouses, adhering strictly to delivery schedules and all relevant traffic and safety regulations. You will be the face of Velogic on the roads, ensuring professional conduct and maintaining the highest standards of service. We are looking for an individual with a strong sense of responsibility, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to maintaining vehicle integrity and cargo security. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks, including articulated lorries, to transport freight and goods across various routes in Mauritius.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Load and unload cargo safely, securing loads appropriately to prevent damage during transit.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and transportation regulations, including speed limits, rest periods, and weight restrictions.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery manifests, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Ensure timely delivery of goods to designated locations.
- Monitor vehicle performance and conduct minor repairs or routine maintenance as needed, reporting any major mechanical issues.
- Represent Velogic professionally, providing excellent customer service during pickups and deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness of the truck interior and exterior.
- Handle sensitive and valuable cargo with utmost care and security.
Required Skills
- Valid Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) driving license (Class 3 or equivalent in Mauritius) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable professional truck driving experience, preferably in freight or goods transportation.
- Thorough knowledge of Mauritian traffic laws and transportation regulations.
- Proven ability to operate heavy-duty vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and ability to perform basic maintenance checks.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks associated with loading/unloading cargo.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various types of freight, including temperature-controlled or hazardous materials.
- Familiarity with GPS devices and route optimization software.
- Additional certifications in cargo handling or safety.
- Mechanical aptitude for minor vehicle repairs and troubleshooting.
