Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical and psychosocial evaluations, and develop individualized nursing care plans.
- Administer medications, treatments, and procedures accurately and safely, adhering strictly to established protocols and physician orders.
- Monitor and record vital signs, observe patient conditions, and promptly document and report any significant changes to the medical team.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, medication management, and self-care techniques.
- Maintain precise and thorough electronic health records (EHRs), ensuring all patient data is accurate and up-to-date.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to junior nursing staff and nursing students, fostering a learning-rich environment.
- Respond rapidly and effectively to medical emergencies, participating in resuscitation efforts and critical interventions.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic ward environment, adhering to infection control policies and safety regulations.
- Participate in ward meetings, care conferences, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and provide compassionate care to patients from diverse backgrounds.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Jamaica.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-registration nursing experience in an acute care hospital ward setting.
- Demonstrated strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in medication administration and IV therapy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience in specialized ward areas such as medical-surgical, geriatric, or orthopedics.
- Demonstrated leadership potential or experience in charge nurse duties.
- Fluency in additional languages common in the community (e.g., Jamaican Patois).
