Job Description

Zanj Spice is seeking a dedicated and energetic Farm Crop Assistant to join our on-site team in Kizimkazi, Makunduchi. This is a full-time, hands-on role vital to our daily farm operations, playing a crucial part in the lifecycle of our diverse spice and fruit crops. As a Farm Crop Assistant, you will work closely with experienced farmers, participating in all stages of crop management from planting and nurturing to harvesting and post-harvest care. Your efforts will directly impact the quality and yield of our renowned Zanzibar spices, exotic fruits, and other agricultural products. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare land for planting, including clearing, tilling, and bed formation.
- Plant seeds, seedlings, and saplings according to farm protocols.
- Perform routine crop maintenance tasks such as weeding, pruning, thinning, and mulching.
- Assist with irrigation systems, ensuring adequate water supply for all crops.
- Monitor crops for signs of pests, diseases, or nutritional deficiencies and report findings to supervisors.
- Apply natural pest control methods and organic fertilizers under supervision.
- Participate in the harvesting of various crops, ensuring careful handling to prevent damage.
- Assist with post-harvest activities, including cleaning, sorting, and packaging produce.
- Operate basic farm equipment and tools safely and efficiently (e.g., hoes, machetes, wheelbarrows).
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, equipment, and farm areas.
- Adhere strictly to all farm safety guidelines and environmental protection policies.
- Contribute to basic record-keeping of crop health, yields, and activities.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and follow instructions from farm supervisors.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of agricultural practices or a strong willingness to learn.
