Job Description

The Lesotho National Farmers’ Union (LNFU) is seeking dedicated and hardworking Farm Labourers to join our team in Khotsong, Teyateyaneng. As a Farm Labourer, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our demonstration farms and agricultural projects, helping to implement best practices and ensuring the productivity and health of our crops and livestock. Key Responsibilities
- Perform various manual tasks related to crop production, including planting, weeding, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting fruits, vegetables, and grains.
- Assist with the care and feeding of livestock, including poultry, small ruminants, and other farm animals, as required.
- Operate and maintain basic farm machinery and hand tools, ensuring their proper use and safety.
- Prepare fields and garden beds, including soil tilling, fertilizing, and composting.
- Monitor crop and animal health, reporting any signs of disease, pests, or distress to supervisors.
- Maintain farm infrastructure, including fences, sheds, and irrigation systems, performing minor repairs as needed.
- Participate in post-harvest activities such as cleaning, sorting, packing, and preparing produce for market or storage.
- Adhere strictly to all farm safety protocols and health guidelines.
- Contribute to a clean and organized farm environment, including waste management and general tidiness.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members, supervisors, and community volunteers on various projects.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 kg) and perform repetitive tasks such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of agricultural practices and a willingness to learn new farming techniques.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic communication skills in Sesotho or English.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all farm regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working on a farm or in a similar outdoor labour-intensive role.
- Familiarity with specific crops or livestock common in Lesotho.
- Knowledge of organic farming principles or sustainable agriculture practices.
- Ability to operate basic farm equipment (e.g., rototiller, pump, small tractor) safely and efficiently.
- Valid driver's license (not essential but an advantage).
- First aid certification is a plus.
