Job Description

Are you a seasoned agricultural professional with a passion for sustainable farming and a proven track record in farm management? Lesotho Milling Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Farm Manager to lead our agricultural operations in Ha Makhalanyane, Thaba-Tseka. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage daily farming activities, including crop rotation, planting, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting schedules.
  • Supervise and train farm staff, ensuring efficient labor utilization and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Manage farm budgets, including procurement of seeds, fertilizers, machinery, and other agricultural inputs.
  • Implement and monitor sustainable farming practices, soil health management, and water conservation strategies.
  • Maintain and oversee the repair of farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Monitor crop health and identify potential issues, implementing timely and effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural regulations, health, and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate farm records, including production data, expenditures, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of harvested crops to the milling facilities.
  • Introduce and evaluate new agricultural technologies and methods to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Prepare regular reports on farm performance, challenges, and future plans for senior management.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in farm management, preferably with cereal crops (maize, wheat).
  • Strong knowledge of agricultural science, agronomy, and modern farming techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and train staff.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in farm machinery operation and maintenance.
  • Sound financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Understanding of agricultural health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with irrigation systems and water management in semi-arid regions.
  • Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.
  • Familiarity with agricultural software for record-keeping and analysis.
  • Experience working in the Lesotho agricultural sector and understanding local farming practices.
